Miles Pittman

​​Miles Pittman is a partner in the Calgary office and is a member of our energy and corporate/commercial groups. He advises energy sector transaction parties and project proponents on acquisitions and divestitures, corporate transactions, and project structure and development. He has led significant transactions in the upstream, midstream and oilfield service sectors, and has advised on virtually all aspects of the LNG value chain.

Alan Ross

​​Alan Ross is a partner in our Commercial Litigation Group in our Calgary office. Alan focuses his practice on administrative law and regulatory matters. He has extensive experience in all aspects of energy and utility regulation as well as major project development, and represents clients in energy regulatory proceedings. He has acted as counsel in numerous significant proceedings arising from the restructuring of the Alberta electricity industry. Alan also has expertise in electricity and oil & gas infrastructure development, power transmission and generation, pipelines, oil sands, renewables, coal and coalbed methane. As well, he has extensive experience in corporate governance and telecommunications issues.

Karen practices commercial litigation with an emphasis on the energy industry. She also acts for oil & gas and electricity clients in regulatory matters in both Alberta and the NWT.

Rick Williams

Rick Williams is a partner in our Vancouver office and is the Regional Leader of our Environmental, Municipal, Expropriation and Regulatory Group. Rick represents and advises clients on all forms of dispute resolution including regulatory proceedings, corporate/commercial litigation and arbitration, with a particular focus on the areas of oil and gas, expropriation, environmental law and transportation.

Churyl Elgart is an associate in our Commercial Litigation Group in our Calgary office. Churyl practises in the areas of municipal and planning law, and commercial litigation. Prior to joining BLG, she worked for 13 years in government and private practice. She has considerable experience in municipal and planning law and in civil litigation.


Kent Howie D  
 

Kent Howie

Kent Howie is a lawyer and a chartered accountant who began his career as a tax lawyer, but who now practises corporate commercial law in both our Calgary and Ottawa Offices. Kent acts for a broad range of clients in the energy and electricity sectors, with a particular focus on the development of new, or the acquisition of existing, energy and electricity projects. He has experience advising clients on legal matters related to liquefied natural gas, oil sands, natural gas storage, refinery/upgrader, pipeline and offshore oil projects. He has also acted as lead counsel with respect to a number of electricity projects, including large hydro, coal, natural gas, solar, wind and geothermal projects in various parts of Canada.

Daniel Johnson

Daniel Johnson is an associate in the Commercial Litigation and Arbitration Group in our Calgary office and is a member of BLG’s Oil and Gas Focus Group. Daniel maintains a general litigation practice, and has experience in securities class actions, energy related litigation, and franchising disputes. Daniel has appeared before all levels of Court in Alberta, and has acted in matters before the Federal Court. Daniel also has experience in administrative and regulatory matters, having appeared as counsel before the Alberta Securities Commission and assisted in matters before the Alberta Utilities Commission.

Sienne Lam is an associate in the Securities and Capital Markets Group of Borden Ladner Gervais LLP. Sienne is focusing her practice on securities and corporate law, with an emphasis on corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions and investment management.

Matti Lemmens is an associate in our Commercial Litigation Group in our Calgary office. Matti practises in all areas of commercial litigation. In particular, she has experience representing Canadian and international clients in litigation and alternative dispute resolution, including both domestic and international arbitrations


Bruce Lawrence  
 

Bruce Lawrence

Bruce Lawrence is a Partner in our Securities and Capital Markets Group, and is the National Chair of our Oil and Gas Focus Group. Based in Calgary, Bruce has practised in the corporate/commercial area since 1982, with an emphasis on clients involved in the natural resources sector. The bulk of his practice involves corporate and securities transactions with exposure to numerous public and private financings, mergers, acquisitions, take-over bids and plans of arrangement. Bruce is also involved in oil sands and off-shore oil and gas development.

Leah Mangano

Leah Mangano is an associate in the Calgary office of Borden Ladner Gervais LLP and is a member of the Commercial Litigation group. She has acted and assisted with a variety of files, from small claims to complex commercial and construction disputes and has appeared in the Alberta Court of Queen’s Bench and the Provincial Court.


Duncan Marsden  
 

Duncan Marsden

Duncan Marsden is a partner and the regional leader of the Labour and Employment Group in our Calgary office. Duncan practises in all areas of labour and employment law, as well as in education law. He provides advice to clients on dismissal procedures, negotiation of severance for senior executives, dispute resolution on employment matters, managing downsizing exercises, employment litigation, and advocacy and privacy issues. He also provides advice on workers’ compensation matters, discrimination law, termination tax issues, and the interpretation of employment contracts and policies. As well, he assists with litigation on non-solicitation and other restrictive covenants, due diligence on global corporate transactions, and the negotiation, drafting and review of all types of employment-related documentation.

Neil McCrank, QC

Neil is Counsel in our Calgary Office. Neil’s practice is primarily focused on oil & gas, energy and litigation. A former Chair of the Alberta Energy and Utilities Board (1998 to 2007), Neil brings a wealth of insight into Alberta’s regulatory regime as it relates to large oil sands and electricity projects, providing strategic advice on some of the most important provincial energy projects, including northern development and the oil sands, major electricity generation, and transmission projects. He is also involved with BLG’s Team North® Initiative.

Steven Pearson is a partner in our Securities and Capital Markets Group in our Calgary office. Steven focuses his practice primarily in the areas of corporate, commercial and securities law. He advises public corporations (including corporations listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange and the TSX Venture Exchange), private corporations, trusts and partnerships with respect to corporate, commercial and securities matters

Andrew Pozzobon is an associate in our Calgary office practicing primarily in Commercial Litigation. He acts and assists on a wide of variety of litigation files. He has been involved in civil claims, bankruptcy matters, labour and employment matters, securities litigation, landlord and tenant disputes, as well as oil and gas disputes.

He acts and assists on a wide of variety of litigation files ranging from smaller matters to complex, multi-million-dollar disputes. He has been involved with civil claims, bankruptcy matters, tax appeals, securities litigation, foreclosure applications, and oil and gas disputes.

Beth Reimer-Heck, QC

Beth is Counsel in our Calgary office. Beth’s practice is focused primarily on business law with specializations in energy, governance and public policy. Over the course of her 24-year career, which has included time in private practice and as in-house counsel, Beth has gained a wide range of legal experience.

Dionysios Rossi

Dionysios Rossi is a partner in our Vancouver office. Dionysios practises in the area of civil litigation, with a focus on transportation and maritime law, oil and gas law, and environmental law. Prior to joining BLG, Dionysios served as a judicial law clerk to several justices of the British Columbia Supreme Court.

Steve Suarez

Steve Suarez is a partner in the Toronto office of Borden Ladner Gervais LLP. He works exclusively in the income tax area, focusing on mergers and acquisitions, inbound & outbound investment, corporate restructurings and audit management and tax dispute resolution, with particular focus on the natural resources sector. He writes and speaks frequently on taxation matters and is active in numerous Canadian and international tax organizations. He created and maintains www.miningtaxcanada.com, a website devoted to taxation issues of relevance to the mining community, and is on the Taxation Committee of the Mining Association of Canada. Steve is the National Co-Chair of BLG's Latin America Desk.

Chidinma Thompson is an associate in our Commercial Litigation Group in our Calgary office. Chidinma is focusing her practice on commercial litigation, regulatory law and arbitration, with an emphasis on energy, natural resources, environmental, and municipal law.

Mark Wheeler

Mark Wheeler is a partner in the Toronto office of Borden Ladner Gervais LLP. A member of our Securities and Capital Markets Group, Mark focuses on mining and mineral exploration and development companies, corporate and securities work for non-mining issuers, and registered dealers primarily in mining-related offerings. Mark is the Toronto regional leader for our Mining focus group.


David Whelan  
 

David Whelan, QC

David is BLG's National Group Head for Specialized Business Law. He is also a member of the Firm's National Management Committee and National Leader of the Oil & Gas Group. David practises in the areas of corporate commercial law, banking, and corporate restructurings, and has a broad range of experience dealing with commercial transactions and banking matters, as well as insolvency and restructuring matters.

Laurie has extensive energy experience gained as in-house legal counsel for prominent energy companies managing a wide range of energy litigation and regulatory issues as well as corporate commercial work in the energy sector prior to joining BLG in 2013.
